Birth and Origins

William Paul was the son of John Paul and Marion Hamilton. He was born c. 1857 (see grave inscription below).

Early Life

in 1861 & 1871, William Paul wasn't present at his parent's home, but, at least in 1871, appears to be residing with his parternal aunts.

In the 1871 Scotland Census, Jane Paul (73, Cotton Winder) lived at Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with her sister, Lillias Paul (56, Cotton Winder), and their nephew, William Paul (14, scholar)^[1]
