Biography

Bertha was born 22 Jun 1885 near Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa. She was the daughter of Edward Paul and Amy Clifton. ^[1]

In 1895 she was living in Mitchell, Iowa.^[2] The household included Edward Paul age 53, Amey Paul age 35, John W Paul age 23, Hattie Paul age 18, Jessie Paul age 17, Walter Paul age 15, Levi J Paul age 13, Berthy Paul age 9 and Agness Paul age 3. Edward was born in England, Amy in Illinois and John in Arkansas. Hattie and Jessie were born in Howard County, Iowa. Walter, Levi, Berthy and Agness were born in Mitchell County, Iowa. Edward was a farmer.

In 1900 she was living in Wayne Township McIntire town, Mitchell, Iowa.^[3] The household included Edward Paul age 60, wife Amy R Paul age 42, son Levi J Paul age 19, daughter Berthy A Paul age 15, daughter Agness R Paul age 9 and son Arthur C Paul age 3. Edward was born in England, Amy in Illinois, and the rest in Iowa. Edward was a farmer. Amy was the mother of 11 children, 8 living. Edward and Amy had been married 26 years. Levi was a farmer.

Bertha E Paul and Clifford Betts were married 16 Aug 1902 in Mower, Minnesota.^[4] Both were residents of Mitchell County, Iowa.

In 1910 she was living in Jenkins, Mitchell, Iowa.^[5] The household included Clifford E Betts age 31, wife Bertha E Betts age 24, daughter Hazel D Betts age 6 and daughter Flora J Betta age 3, all born in Iowa. Clifford was a farmer. Bertha was the mother of 2 children, both living. Clifford and Hazel had been married 7 years.

In 1920 she was living in School District 44, Sheridan, Montana.^[6] The household included Clifford E Betts age 41, wife Bertha Betts age 35, daughter Hazel Betts age 16 and daughter Flora Betts age 13, all born in Iowa. Clifford operated a farm.

In 1930 she was living in School District 06, Daniels, Montana.^[7] The household included Clifford E Betts age 51 and wife Bertha L Betts age 44, both born in Iowa. Clifford was a farmer with his own farm.

In 1940 she was living in Ward 4, Coeur d'Alene, Roosevelt Election Precinct, Kootenai, Idaho.^[8] The household included Clifford Betts age 61 and wife Bertha Betts age 54, both born in Iowa. Clifford was a herd control for the WPA. They had lived in the same place in 1935.

She died 22 Nov 1985 in Idaho.^[9]

She is buried in Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens, Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho.^[10]
