The oldest deed for a Catholic church in Clinton County was issued on Nov. 27, 1821. Peter Paulint conveyed about 1.3 acres in the Town of Champlain for $1 to Joseph Rochester "for the purpose of being occupied for a Catholic church building" the deed reads. -- PRESS-REPUBLICAN September 1994

The Article goes on to say that the land in that area at that time was very valuable and difficult to procure.

This was St Joseph's in Coopersville, less than a mile from where Antoine Paulin's (Pierre's father) original cabin had been built.
