Jacobus Cornelis Pauw geb 1 September 1800. Na die dood van sy moeder (1802) asook vader (1813) word die jongste twee, Jacobus (13) en suster Diewertje (16) in ‘n weeshuis opgeneem. Hy bly daar tot 1824. Jacobus word daarna ‘n “zeer bekwaam messelaar”. Hy trou op 29 April 1824 met Antonia Loijden. In Maart 1836 sterf sy kinderloos. Hy trou weer op 8 Jan 1837 met Magritha Johanna Holtz, dogter van ‘n welvarende winkelier, Dirk Holtz (afstammeling van die Boheemse vlugtelinge). Hulle het ‘n deftige huis besit wat vandag nog betaan met adres Breedestraat 13. Die jong egpaar woon egter in Langegracht, ‘n veel eenvoudiger buurt vir ambagsmense. Hulle behoort aan die Christelijk Gereformeerde Afgescheidenen Kerk wat in 1833 tot stand gekom het. [1]
