Thomas Pavis was born in 1818 in Wood Ditton, Cambridgeshire, England to Thomas Pavis and Sarah.

In 1841 Thomas Pavis [mistranscribed as Parrs] (age 20-24, Ag Lab) lived at Little Ditton in Wood Ditton with his father Thos (50-54, Ag Lab), mother Sarah (45-49), and seven siblings: John (25-29, Ag Lab), James (15-19, Ag Lab), Joseph (15-19, Ag Lab), Ellen (13), Sarah (12), Richard (9), and Charlotte Jeffery (20-24), as well as niece Dorithy Jeffery (2).[3]

Thomas Pavis (age 22, Bachelor, Labourer, son of Thomas Pavis, Labourer) and Mary Tilbrook [aka Tilley, Tilly] (age 21, Spinster, daughter of William Tilbrook, Labourer) were married on 8 Nov 1841 at St Mary in Wood Ditton - the witnesses were John Pavis & Thomas Purvis.[4][5] The marriage was registered in Newmarket, Cambridgeshire in the last quarter of the year.[6]

Thomas and Mary had six children:

  1. Thomas Pavis (1842-1914)
  2. Charlotte (Pavis) Gadd (1844-1891)
  3. Ellen (Pavis) Hawkes (1849-)

  6. William Pavis (1856-)

In 1851 Thomas Pavis Jr [mistranscribed as Pairs] (age 32, Ag Lab) lived at Ditton Green in Wood Ditton with his wife Mary (31) and four children: Thomas (9, Scholar), Charlotte (6, Scholar), Ellen (2), and Joe (1 month), as well as mother[-in-law] Mary Tilley (66, Nurse).[7]
