Biography

As is annotated on the birth certificate, Edwin Raymond Pavy is the son of Edward W. and Faye (Ayers) Pavy. His Social Security listing, death certificate, and tombstone etching indicate his name was "Raymond E. Pavy."

The 1910 census indicates both parents were Indiana natives, born in Switz County and Jefferson County respectively. The census lists the following family members: Edward (age 41), Faye (age 39), Pauline (age 14), Janette (age 11), Raymond (age 8), Russell (age 4), and Mary (6 months). A grandfather, Sam Ayers (age 75) was living with them. The census indicates Sam was born in Indiana, with Sam's father being born in Virginia and his mother born in Ireland.

Raymond married Lois Amy (Weare) Pavy, probably in 1930. Census records of that year have Lois (age 19) as living in her parental home. Raymond and Lois had a daughter, Betty Johann Pavy, born to them on July 10, 1931. 1940 census data indicates Raymond (age 28), Lois (age 29), and Betty (age 8) were living in Milan, Indiana.

On November 11, 1941, Lois delivered a son in Louisville, (Jefferson County) Kentucky, who was named Raymond E. Pavy, Jr. after his father. Betty married William Walker on August 20, 1950, in Sullivan County, Indiana. Marriage records indicate that is where the Pavy family was living at the time and that Raymond Sr., a minister, officiated the marriage ceremony.

The Pavy family remained in Sullivan, Indiana until 1956. Raymond Jr. is pictured in 1955 and 1956 Sullivan school yearbooks. Then he is pictured in 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1960 yearbooks at Chrysler High School in New Castle, Indiana.

Raymond Jr. moved on to a distinguished college career at Indiana University in Bloomington. He is pictured in the 1961, 1963, and 1964 Arbutus, In the 1962-63 calendar year, he served as secretary for the Sigma Nu fraternity. In 1964, he was recognized as a Blue Key Honor Society member.

On April 2, 1976, Raymond Jr. (age 34) married Karen L. Ditty (age 29) in a ceremony that Raymond Sr. officiated. Both of them were listed as being public school teachers. This is recorded in the Henry County clerk's office in book 63, page 339.

Raymond Sr. suffered from aortic stenosis which led to cardiac arrest. He was buried on August 19, 1992 at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle, Indiana, where he was joined by his wife in 2004.
