Mary Jane Payne was born on 2 January 1847 in Stokes County, North Carolina, presumed. She is mentioned in the death record of her son, Joseph Nathaniel Griffin. This record also confirms Joseph Griffin as her husband.
Mary Jane and Joseph Griffin were united in marriage on 28 March 1875 in Old Richmond, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Joseph was forty two and Mary Jane was 28 years old. Mary Jane's parents were Washington Payne and Nancey E S Payne. [1]
