Biography

Gaius was born about 1792. He is believed to be a son of Richard Payne who was residing in Pendleton County, Kentucky in 1810. Gaius married there in 1812 to Mary "Polly" Glaves with the consent of her guardian Michael Glaves who also signed the bond for their marriage. Gaius and Polly raised a family in Pendleton County where he passed away in Pendleton County in 1846. His will mentioned his wife, Polly Payne, three sons and numerous daughters, to wit; Uriel L Payne, James H. Payne, and William T. Payne; Louisa and Elvira my two youngest daughters; Elizabeth Porter, Lucy Ann Janes, and Agnes Roberts.
