Research notes

William Hutchings was born in Sturminister, Newton, Dorset, England 1816. He married Mary Ann Payne about 1839.Mary was born 1821 in Cow Head, Newfoundland. She was the daughter of Charles Payne and Mary Brooks. Mary died April 13, 1893 in Cow Head, Newfoundland, at age 71. William died May 23, 1890 in Cow Head, Newfoundland, at age 73.[1].

Mary Ann Payne was born in 1821[2] She married Elias Gifford and had a child, Rebecca Gifford b. 1836.

She remarried to William Hutchings and had 9 children:
