' William appears in 1861 Bowmanville Ontario census as a 13 year old going to school. While still a young man, William went to Kentucky where his brother Charles and his family joined him.<Family> The family story was that William was a professor at the University of Kentucky, near Lexington. However researchers have found no record of him there. <letter to family>The whole family returned to Ontario in 1870 and William died shortly thereafter of tuberculosis. That may be why the family came back to Canada. At the time of his death, William was employed at the office of the Vindicator, a newspaper in Oshawa, Ontario. It is not known what his job was there.<clipping from Vindicator> William was buried in Bowmanville, where much later, his parents were also buried.<Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid>
