In late 1918, towards the end of WW1, Edmund was recovering from serious wounds in the 1st Southern General Hospital in Birmingham, England, where he met and married Mary McWhirter, a staff nurse at the hospital, before returning to Australia in 1919. [2]
Edmund served in the Australian Army (AIF) during WW1[3] and then, again, in WW2.[4]
