Biography

John Pearson was born in England.

John was born in 1778 at Brenchley, Kent, England, and baptised on 15 November 1778[1][2]. He was the son of John Pierson/Pearson and Sarah Smitherman.

He married Sarah Bromley on 16 November 1806 at Maidstone, Kent[3]. They had at least thirteen children (death dates taken from FamilySearch).

In 1841 he was living with his wife Sarah (about 50) and children - Stephen (20), Sarah (15), Charlotte (12), Kezia (12), Matilda (11) and Elizabeth (7) - at Potteridge, Brenchley, Kent[21][22]. He was an agricultural labourer aged about 65 born in Kent.

His son Stephen left home and married Kezia Brankham in 1842[23]. His daughter Charlotte married John Neal in 1848[24]. His daughter Kezia married George Cramp in 1849[25]. And, in 1850 his daughter Caroline married Thomas Scrace[26].

By 1851 only his two youngest daughters - Matilda (20) and Elizabeth (18) -were with his wife (58) and him (an agricultural labourer aged 75) at Bourns City, Brenchley, Kent[27]. All had been born in Brenchley, Kent. Also in the household was grand-daughter Fanny Towne Pearson aged 7 months born in the Tonbridge Union House[28].

All the children had left home by 1861, and he aged 85 and his wife aged 60 were now paupers living at Bournes City, Brenchley, Kent[29].

John died in January 1862 aged 86 years and was buried on 8 January[30] in All Saints Churchyard, Brenchley[31].
