Biography

This profile is part of the Dalrymple Crescent, Edinburgh, Midlothian One Place Study.

Charlotte Dalziel lived in 18 Dalrymple Crescent from 1882 to 1884. She "was born Charlotte Pearson, in Edinburgh in 1806. She married George Dalziel, a Writer to the Signet, in Edinburgh in October 1827. They had eight children, all born in Edinburgh: Charlotte, born in September 1828, Agnes in March 1830, Georgina in January 1832, Anne in August 1834, John in January 1837, Mary in July 1840, Eliza in May 1842 and George in January 1843.

At the time of the 1841 census they were living in Regent Terrace, and two of the eight children, Charlotte and Georgina, were at home, although Charlotte herself was not. George died in 1869, when they were still living at 10 Regent Terrace. Two of the children, John and George followed their father into the law firm of Gibson-Craig, Dalziel & Brodie. In 1881 Charlotte, now aged 74, was living at 10 Lennox Street with her daughter Charlotte, who was unmarried and aged about 50. They moved into Dalrymple Crescent in the same year and Charlotte senior died in December 1884."[1]
