Mrs. Emma Dawes, a resident of the Tweed district for many years, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Edwards, Prince-street, Murwillumbah, last Sunday. Deceased, who had been in failing health for the past 12 months, would have celebrated her 81st birthday on January 18. She was formerly Miss Emma Pearson, a member of a well known and highly respected Marshall Mount (South Coast) family. Sixty-two years ago she married Mr. Aaron Dawes, also of Marshall Mount. Some years later with her husband and family she came to the North Coast and settled at Booyong, Richmond River. About 30 years ago they moved to the Tweed where she resided up to the time of her death. Her husband predeceased her seven years ago, also two daughters, the late Mrs. T. McDonagh, of Bowral, and Mrs. G. Keevers, of Carool, Tweed River. She is survived by six daughters and two sons, also 41 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The daughters are: Mrs. W. Uren (Kempsey), Mrs. E. Ross (Murwillumbah), Mrs. A. Cheers (Rockhampton), Mrs. L. Raward (Brisbane), Mrs. E. Pearson (Duranbah, Tweed River), and Mrs. J. Edwards (Murwillumbah). Messrs. Harry and Fred Dawes (Murwillumbah) are sons. Mrs. G. Pearson, senr.of Cowlong, Richmond River, is a sister-in-law.
The funeral, which left the residence on Monday, was largely attended and there were many beautiful wreaths. The remains were interred in the Methodist portion of the old Murwillumbah cemetery beside those of her late husband. The Rev. J. W. Barrett conducted the services at the home and at the graveside.
