Birth

Irene was born in her parent's home and shop in League Street, which was off Oldham Road, Rochdale, Lancashire, England, on the 30th of December 1926. Irene is the only child John Pearson and Edith Partington had.

The shop had a second entrance to Bath Street as it was a corner store. The family lived there until Irene was around five years of age, when they moved to a corporation home in Brockbank Road, Oakenrood Rochdale and Irene started school. After a while they moved into a new shop in Leopold Street, near St George's Church.

Marriage

Irene married Kenneth Wild on the 22 of March 1952, their marriage took place in Heywood, Lancashire, England.[1] Until his unexpected death in1995,

  • 1940 - when they moved to Windy Corner, 85 Bury Old Road, Heywood, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. This move followed the death of Ellen (Durnell) Pearson (Granma Pearson). Windy Corner was her husband's family home and became their family home until:
  • 1996 - Romney House, 147 Norley Road, Cuddington, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom. Following her husband Kenneth's death, Irene moved into her son Philip and daughter-in-law's family home, living with them and their four children for several years. After the rural bus service stopped, she moved into an apartment in the nearest town in order to maintain her independence.
  • 2004 - Castle, Northwich, Cheshire, England, United Kingdom, she lived here until shortly before her death.
  • 2023 Sandiway Manor, Retirement and Nursing Home, Irene was living here for only a few weeks before her death at the age of 96.

  • 1945-1953 Chief Constables Secretary - played a game of snooker four days a week at lunchtime with her five colleagues, as there were five of them one had to 'drop out' each day, as only four could play at a time.

  • 1973-1974 Teacher Training College in Bolton
  • 1974 - 1985 Teacher - Business Studies English Teacher at Hulton High School (Retired as Head of Year)

Until 2020 Irene took herself to Spain for 4 - 6 weeks for a break away from the English weather. Over the last ten years, she has regularly gone to Florida in the autumn with her Son and Daughter in law for a month or more. Loves Bok Tower and The Singing Tower Carillon in Bok Tower Gardens.

In late December a couple of years ago Irene took a DNA test which she has given permission for it to be added to her profile on WikiTree. She is keen to find out more about the Pearson (from Lancashire, England) and Dowbiggin (believed to be Scots/Irish) side of her family and hopes the DNA test will help in this search.

Health

Retired on medical grounds as had a minor heart problem, continued in good health. Lost her hearing completely for 3 years then had a Cochlear Implant in 2013 which was a life-changing event for her and the family.
in 2022 she had a fall that resulted in a fractured skull and severe bruising following a 3 months recuperation with us she returned to her apartment and her independent living. Her health slowly deteriorated, in 2023 it became clear she was struggling and she allowed more help with her daily routine. February 2023 showed major changes and it became necessary for 24/7 care which the family provided until it was clear she need more nursing care than we as individuals could provide. In April she moved to Sandiway Lodge in Sandiway, Cheshire, where she passed away the following month.

Death, Cremation and Burial

Irene slipped quietly from life in the early hours of the morning of the 11th of May 2023. She was surrounded by three generations of her family. She is much loved and will be missed. Irene was the longest living person in my husband's family she was 96 years 4 months and 11 days young when she left us.
Following her wishes Irene was cremated following a celebration of life service at the local Abby Ryal crematorium in Northwich Cheshire. Irene's ashes will be interred in the family plot in Heywood, Lancashire she will be reunited with her husband Kenneth.

Will and Probate

Irene's will has been read by her children and is being prepared for probate.
