Biography

Giles was born on February 17, 1807 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He was the son of Richmond Pearson and Elizabeth Mumford. He died on April 1, 1848, in Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina and is buried at Saint James Churchyard Cemetery in Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC.[1]

He married Elizabeth Ellis on March 9, 1830, in Rowan, North Carolina. They had five children. Spouse: Elizabeth Ellis (1813-1886)[2]

Slaves - Excerpt of Will, February 12, 1847

"It will be necessary to sell a part of my negroes or land in Davie County to discharge my debt up the County. I leave this matter entirely discretionary with my Executors fully authorizing them to sell land and negroes without incurring the expense of Court Case. I wish my wife to have a full share of my estate after the payment of debts and also for the use of herself and family all the household and kitchen furniture, the carriage and a pair of horses or mules her choice. Also a cook woman, house girl and servant boy, whic is all the slaves I would advise her to keep about her at any time. I would advise all the balance of the negroes to be sold. Of this she must exercise her own discretion."
