Biography

Bertha Gertrude Pearson was born on 16 Aug 1880 in Pipe Creek-Amboy, Miami, Indiana, USA as the first child of Charles Monroe Pearson and Lillian Gertrude Newbern. She had one sibling, Wilbur Crawford Pearson.

When she was 25, she married James David Holtsclaw, son of Rilon Holtsclaw and Sarah Ellen New, on 02 May 1906 in Henry, Indiana, USA. They had one child, Paul L. Holtsclaw, born on 08 Mar 1907 in Henry County, Indiana, USA. He died on 26 Jul 1978 in Broward County, Florida, USA 33319.

Bertha G. Pearson lived in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, USA on 18 Oct 1894, and in Grant, Indiana, USA on 05 Dec 1894. She was living with her Aunt Effie (Newbern) and Uncle Edwin Hall in Spiceland Township (north part) Spiceland town, Henry, Indiana, 1900, and with her husband and mother-in-law in Spiceland in 1910.

About 1915, when Bertha and her brother Wilbur Crawford lived in Spiceland, Indiana, Bertha gave Wilbur's wife, Stella (Rozek) Pearson a chicken along with three others. She raised them until she had 25 chickens.

Bertha died on 03 Aug 1919 in Strickland, Henry County, Indiana, USA from Typhoid Fever.

Obituary: "Aug. 3, 1919, Bertha Holtsclaw, daughter of Charles and Gertrude Pearson, aged 39 years. She attended school at Spiceland Academy and afterward taught in township schools for some time. She was married in 1906 to James Holtsclaw, who, with one son, survives her. She was active in the different departments of the church and in neighborhood activities." She was buried after 03 Aug 1919 in Circle Grove Cemetery, Spiceland, Henry County, Indiana, USA (Plot: Sec. 3).

She was also known as Bertha Edna Pearson.
