Levi Pease was born 23 Nov 1816 in Oswego, Oswego County, New York, USA. He was a son of Miriam Rice and Daniel Pease, early settlers of Oswego's fruit valley.

On 26 Feb 1818, his sister Laura Pease was born in Oswego.

Levi was a farmer who had lived in this town for 38 years. His wife Anna had lived in the town 20 years. [4]

In 1860, Levi Pease (43) lived in Oswego with his wife Mary (44), stepdaughter Mary E Rhodes (15), son Levy (10), daughter Anna (7), son Lou (4), sister Abigail Owen (60), and another person Timothy Wood (23). Levi's real estate was valued at $7,000 and his personal estate valued at $1797; his wife's personal estate was valued at $350, his stepdaughter's personal estate valued at $450, and his sister's personal estate valued at $600. In Mar 1865 his brother William Pease died.

In Jun 1865, Levi Pease (48) lived in Oswego with his wife Mary B (50), stepdaughter Mary E Rhodes (20), son Leroy (15), daughter Anna (12), son Ira (9), sister Abigail Owen (64), and employee Ann Galigher (21). Mary Pease had 5 children. Levi was a farmer. His brother Amos Pease (36) & family and brother Alfred Pease (39) & family were neighbors. [6]

In 1868, his son Leroy Pease married Laura Alexander. Laura was a daughter of Mary Ann and Samuel Alexander.

In Aug 1870, Levi Pease (53) lived in Oswego with his wife Mary B (53), daughter Anna (17), son Ira (14), Robert Mair (25), Rachel Pritchard (14), and Arthur H Doss (21). Levi was a farmer, Mary was keeping house, Mr Mair and Mr Doss were laborers. Levi's real estate was valued at $8000 and his personal estate valued at $4000. Ms Pritchard had been born in Ireland and Mr Doss had been born in England. His son Leroy Pease (20), daughter-in-law Laura E (20) and their son Dwight Pease (1) were his neighbors. [7]

In Jun 1875, Levi Pease (58) lived in Oswego with his wife Mary B (60), daughter Anna (22), son Ira (19), and a servant Rosa Shutters (19). Levi was a farmer. His dwelling was frame built and valued at $2000. [8]

In Jun 1879, his daughter Anna Pease (26) married Charles P Smith in Vermont. [9] Charles was a son of Mary and Frederick Smith.

1880s

In 1880, his son Ira Pease married Marcia Place, daughter of Julia and John Place.

In Jun 1880, Levi Pease (63) lived in Oswego with his wife Mary B (63). His son Ira (23) and daughter-in-law Marcie (22) lived nearby with a servant Mary Knope (17) and boarder Charles G Adams (47). Levi and Ira were farmers while Mary B and Marcie were keeping house. Ms Knope was a servant from Canada and Mr Adams was a laborer. Levi's father had been born in Massachusetts and his mother from Connecticut. [10]

In Jul 1894, his wife Mary Pease died.

On 7 Oct 1897, Levi Pease died in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. He was buried in Rural Cemetery, Oswego. [11]

Obituary [11][12]

Levi Pease, for over four score years a resident of Oswego Town and one of the most prominent and successful fruit growers in the county, died at the Homeopathic Hospital in Syracuse this morning. There it was found that he was suffering with a cancer in the groin. An operation was thought necessary a insure any chance of prolonging his life and he willingly submitted to it. From the effects of this operation he died. Mr. Pease was in his eighty-second year and had always lived in Oswego Town. His father was the late Daniel Pease. Mr Pease taught for some time then turned his attention to fruit growing and light farming. His success as a fruit grower has been demonstrated year after year by the magnificent yield from his trees and vines. When a young man Mr. Pease married Mrs Mary Bishop Rhodes, daughter of the late Sylvanus Bishop. Mr. Pease was a member of no church, although an earnest Christian and charitable man. In the late years of his life he had been very prominent as a Prohibitionist and temperance advocate. He is survived by two sons, LeRoy and Ira Pease, of Oswego Town, and a daughter Anna A Smith, VT. The body will arrive from Syracuse Today.
