Matthew died between April 11 1768 and July 14 1768 when the court record showed that his estate was ordered to be appraised.
Matthew Peatross appears as early as 1733 in the Caroline County Order book, in which his name at that time was spelled Petterey. In 1752 William Yarborough chose Matthew Peatross as his guardian and in 1754 he petitioned for the right to build a mill on reedy Swamp. He died in 1768, leaving a will. He was married twice. his first wife was a Catlett, his second wife, who survived him, was named Amy. Papers on this family are preserved in the Virginia Historical Society.
Matthew son, William's wife was also named Amey Brame as per Tidewater Virginia Families: Generation Beyond: Chapter 6: The Peatross Family. Matthew was appointed the surveyor of the road from Reedy Mill to Boot Swamp in St Margaret's Parish. He accumulated almost 2000 acres along the Mattaponi River. He and Amey had 13 children (named in his will of Jan 11, 1768)
In 1761 he was granted a judgement from Joseph Dejarnatt which his executors were required to settle.
