John William Peavy, son of William Peavy and Martha Unknown (possibly Cox), was born in Georgia c.1829. He moved west with his family, and was 21 when he was counted on the census with them in Montezuma, Covington County, Alabama in 1850.[1]
In 1860 they were counted on the census with three children in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. [2]
He served the 16th Louisiana Infantry during the Civil War.[3]
He died in a Confederate hospital in Tupelo on the same day that his brother Joshua died in Tupelo. Place of burial in Tupelo is unknown.[4]
