Obituary: Loyal C. Peck, 79, of Blackduck, died January 11, 1998 at the VA Hospital in Fargo, N.D. Funeral services were Wednesday at the Cormant Community Church in rural Blackduck with Pastor Dwayne Weiher officiating. Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Cormant Township under the direction of the Snustad Funeral Home in Blackduck. Pallbearers were Lyle Wallin, Daryl Wallin, Tim Krueth, Jim Krueth, Ron Jedlicka and Craig Sanders. He was born June 24, 1918 in Eveleth to Ocie and Violet Peck. He came to the Shooks and Foy area as an infant. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Africa and Europe. He received the Purple Heart medal, five bronze battle stars and one bronze arrowhead medal for service in World War II. He married Lorraine Krueth on May 5, 1946 in Bemidji. They made their home in Duluth, Twin Cities, Bemidji, Kelliher, Cormant Township for five and a half years and recently moved to Blackduck. He was very active in the Cormant Community Church and was a member of the Kelliher American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Blackduck; three daughters, Charlane of Saum, Valdeen of Quartzsite, Ariz. and Lori of Hines; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack of Little Current, Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Olive Wallin of Blackduck and Madelene Sanders of Duluth. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence Peck and one sister, Opal Rustad.
