Arriving from Lyme in the Connecticut Colony, Benjamin Peck and his family, along with his brother Silas, were among the first New England Planters who resettled in Nova Scotia, [2] beginning in 1760, on lands that had been seized from the Acadians by the British in a brutal ethnic cleansing and deportation known as Le Grand Dérangement (Great Upheaval) that began five years earlier.
On 10 January 1764, Benjamin Peck was given a grant of 1½ shares (750 acres) of Horton Township in Kings County, Nova Scotia, in present-day Kentville. [2] Upon his death, the land was divided between his sons, Benjamin and Cyrus. [2]
