John Pederson (Johan Britanus Pedersen Finnes) was born on 22 Oct 1862 in Hjørundfjord, Norway (present day Ørsta kommune), the son of Peder Johnsen and Pernille Maria Pedersdatter.[1]

In the 1865 census, Johan (age 4) was the son of Peder Jonsen at Finnæs in Hjørundfjord.[2]

In the 1875 census, Johan lived with his parents and siblings at Finnæs farm.[3]

Johan emigrated to the United States, departing from Bergen on 24 Apr 1882.[4]

John married Anna Hustad on 8 Dec 1888 in Hennepin County, Minnesota.[5][6] They had the following children:

  2. Arthur John Pederson (1890 - 1974)
  3. Peter J Pederson (1893 - 1969)
  4. Knute Andrew Pederson (1895 - 1974)

In the 1900 census John (age 38) was the married head of household in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota.[7] His date of birth was given as Oct 1862 and he worked as a farmer. He lived with his wife Anna (37) and six children: Melvin (11), Arthur (10), Petter (8), Knute (5), John (3), and Edwin (1).

In the 1910 census John (age 47) was the married head of household in Sioux Agency, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota.[8]He lived with his wife and six children: Melvin, Knut, Johnnie, Edwin, Petra, and Roy.

In the 1920 census John (age 57) was the married head of household in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota.[9] He lived with his wife and five children.

In the 1930 census John (age 68) was the married head of household in Echo, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota.[10] He lived with his wife and his son Roy.

In the 1940 census John (age 77) was the married head of household in Echo, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota.[11]

John died on 9 July 1946 and was buried in Echo, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota.[12][13] His father's name on his death record was "John Finnis".
