DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:
Peebles-1544 and Peebles-1366 do not represent the same person because: There is no record apparent for the wife on the undocumented profile. There are numerous people with the name Robert Peebles, and the birth year is all that matches. Until there is more substantial proof, this merge will be rejected.
Teresa, I am so tiring of merging profiles that have been made after there is an original one, and I try to put as much information in my biographies that is available at the time. Most of the profiles are bare of any documentation, and the number seem to be multiplying rather than decreasing. I had much rather spend my time on making new good profiles than adding bare profiles into the better ones. I wish there was some way of not letting duplicates happen in WikiTree.
You are right. The only Robert Peebles I can find around these dates died in ~1807 in Northampton County, NC, and his wife's name was Rebecca. DAR lineage states that was b. 1740 in Scotland and served as a Captain in the NC colonial troops. I don't think this person would have been married to Bathsheba, and given the lack of other substantiating evidence, I have disconnected them.
Gary for one thing Wiki Tree errors pointed out that Robert Peebles' death date was before John M Peebles was born. Do you have a different death date for Robert, as no one has corrected anything or added to this profile? i will research further on the one that I believe to be his dad. Robert's death was given as 1805 and John M's birth date was 1810.
Carolyn - if "research does not bear out that Robert Peebles is the father of John M. Peebles" then please cite the sources that show that he is not. I'm not purporting to have a solid source that says he is, but if you are citing research to the contrary, please add it. Otherwise, it's just an open question with no research either way. Thanks.
I will look at this one now. Thanks.
