Mourning Peebles was born about 1750. She was the daughter of Joseph Peebles and Mary Barker Peebles. Mourning Peebles was about three years of age when her father died before 1753. Her mother, Mary Barker Peebles, remarried to William Binford in 1756. Mourning Peebles and her only sibling, sister Elizabeth Peebles, were raised by their uncle Peter Peebles[1]

Mourning Peebles is included in the Genealogical Column of the Boston Transcript on 11 May 1927.

Mourning Peebles never married. She became a silversmith. It has been said she made a lot of money plying her trade. Tradition describes her as a striking figure in her long gray Quaker cape. Elizabeth Peebles, her sister, signed at a Quaker wedding in 1775. She is believed to be the Elizabeth who in 1798, in the Blackwater Monthly Meeting, married Thomas Hunicutt.

Mourning Peebles visited Peebles cousins in Scotland and various ones of the Quaker Peebleses who moved from Prince George County and Dinwiddie County to Ohio and Indiana.

On 21 April 1787 Mourning Peebles was chosen as an Elder as recorded in the Quaker Genealogy.[3]

Mourning Peebles was a representative to the Women's Friends Meeting that was the Upper Quarterly meeting, Baltimore Yearly Meeting in Dinwiddie County, Virginia 8 Aug 1808. She further attended or Represented in the monthly Quaker meetings on 16 Feb 1811, 15 June 1811, and 20 July 1811.[6]
