Biography

Robert Peek was born in 1836. He was married to Nancy Burgess in the 1850s.

In early 1863 he enlisted in Company A of Ward's 9th Tennessee Cavalry, wherein he was a courier and "general errand Boy," by his own description. He was separated from his command in southern Kentucky in late June 1864. He hid out in the mountains until January 1865, when he felt he had no choice but to take the oath of allegiance to the United States.[1]

Robert Peek was married a second time in 1892, after the death of his first wife. His second wife was Adaline Stafford.[2]

Peek lived in Putnam and Overton counties his whole life. In 1916 he wrote that he lived on a four-and-a-half acre plot of land "Situated about one mile south west of the public square in Cookeville, Tennessee.[1] He died in Cookeville[3] in 1919.[4]
