Biography

Hoke Smith Peel was the seventh of fifteen children born to John William Peel and Elizabeth A. "Bessie" Dunbar. His draft registration in 1940 listed his employer as the Bank of Commerce in Americus, Georgia. During World War II he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Keokuk CM-8 and the USS Briareus AR-12 as a Storekeeper First Class. In 1943 he married Grace McRee.
