Biography

John Robert Peel was born September 26, 1830, in England.^[1] A sculptor who earned a living as a marble cutter making monuments and tombstones, he emigrated to London, Ontario,^[2][3][4] where he became a leading figure in the local arts community. He co-founded the Western School of Art and Design and organized the first Art Loan exhibition in the city.^[5]

J.R. married Amelia Hall in 1849 in London, England.^[6] He married Isabella Murray Ross in 1901 in London, Ontario.^[7] He died in 1904.^[8]
