Their first child, Jane, was christened in October of that year in Uldale.
In 1871 Richard and Betty were living in Brayton with their daughters Jane, Elizabeth and Mary. The youngest daughters were both born in Brayton. Richard was a farm bailiff. [5]
By 1881 Richard and Betty had moved from Brayton to Above Derwent with their six children. They were farming 149 acres and employed two people. [6]
In 1891 Richard and Betty were in Bassenthwaite with their five children, including Isabella, her husband Joseph Thompson and their daughter Ethel. [7]
In 1901 Richard, Betty and Thomas were in Bassenthwaite. [8]
Richard died on 2 February 1905 at Mireside, Bassenthwaite, Cumberland.
