Reverend Peeler was the organizing Pastor for Corntassel Presbyterian Church in about 1830. The website has a brief history. [2]

The 1840 Federal Census has listed 3 white males 5-9 (George Henderson b.1835, William A. born abt 1831, 3rd son?); 1 white male 10-14 (John William born 1828); 1 white male 30-39 (Joseph); 1 white female under 5 (Rebecca Caroline b. 1839); 1 white female 5-9 (Sarah Jane b. 1832); 1 white female 10-14 (?); and 1 white female 30 -39 (Sarah). This accounts for some of the children of Sarah and Joseph.[3]

After Sarah's death, he married Susan Adeline Curtiss on 18 Nov 1844. [4]

The 1850 Federal Census lists Joseph (50); Susan (25); William (20); George (16); Rebecca (12); and Wilson (9): the children of Sarah and Joseph and three new daughters of Susan and Joseph: Susan (7); Synthia (4); and Emeline (1) The Family name is misspelled as Puder, but it is the Peeler family. [5]

The 1860 Federal Census lists new children Josephine (7); James B. (5); Louisa (4); and Cornelia (6/12). [6]

3rd Tn. MTD Inf. Lillards, Confederate States of America, Chaplain. [7]

The Reverend Joseph Peeler served the CSA as a chaplain which has the rank of Captain. Two of his sons served the Union as well as one son-in-law. One son had moved to southwest Iowa, another stayed in Monroe County and the son-in-law lived in Missouri. I joined the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Military Order of Stars & Bars on his service record.

The 1870 Federal Census shows 2 more new children: Mousisa (10) [Misspelled - should be Missouri] and Joseph (8). [8]
