        • NOTES: MORE RESEARCH NEEDED: BIRTH LOCATION COULD ALSO HAVE BEEN STOKES COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA AND DOB 7/7/1772 (headstone is hard to read in photo to confirm).
      • DURING MERGE IT WAS NOTICED: "In bond" was provided in the marrriage details. More research to confirm date provided is "in bond" or an actual marriage is needed and if "in bond" did an actual marriage occur and when.

MEANING OF IN BOND: "Think of a marriage bond as an intention to marry – a reflection of an official “engagement.” A man who had proposed to a woman went to the courthouse with a bondsman (often the father or brother of the prospective bride), and posted a bond indicating his intention to marry the woman." [4]

birth date and place from Stanley Beck, "Grass Roots USA".

Parents and father's parents from Arnold, Jonnie P.: "Some American Peelers and their Descendants" 1984. pp. 7-85. (See notes below). 1

From "The Beck heritage" - full ref. in John M. Beck notes: Son Solomon executor of her estate. Coffin cost six dollars. List of items in estate and who went to. p.12.

Same ref, p.15: "Miss Zora Lane of Lebanon Ind gave me a copy of a poem that is supposed to have been written by Elizabeth Peeler Beck. (note - elsewhere she signed a document with an "X" - rl) However, it may have been only a favorite." "There is a school on earth begun Supported by the Holy One He sends his students for to prove The principles of perfect love.

O come my friends wheree're you be Say will you go to school with me Christ Jesus is my master's name Today as yesterday the same.

His law demands attention bright He teaches well both day and night His government is meek and mild Towards the aged and the child.

My master learns the blind to see Come then you blind, the school is free My master learns the lame to walk Likewise he learns the dumb to talk.

He learns the swearing man to pray Come ye profane without delay He'll change your tongue to praise his name And spread abroad your Master's fame.

My Master learns the deaf to hear Come then you deaf and lend an ear Unto my Master's pleasing voice He'll make your mourning soul's rejoice.

The signatures on our school books true Its lessons are forever new The scoffers all may learn to read It is a glorious school indeed.

O come my friends who are at school Attention pay to every rule We soon shall learn the happy art Of loving God with all our heart.

When these frail tenements shall die We then shall lay our schoolbooks by With Master Jesus we shall dwell Glory to God -- Glory to man (son?).

With angels bow before the throne And sing a revented (?) song All glory be to Christ alone For He is Master king and Son.".

same ref: "It seems almost foolproof that Elizabeth was the daughter of Anthony Peeler who was the son of Christian Peeler born around 1725 and died between 1794 and 1800. Christian is the son of Anthony Peeler, born in Germany....so many of the same name difficult to keep straight.". 1

from McCubbin collection - Santa Clara LDS: "...half a dozen other [than Michael] men of that [Peeler] name contemporary with Michael. ....In Rowan County, besides Michael, we find Benjamin, Jacob, Christian, Anthony, Richard, and Jeremiah....Passed back and forward from Orange Co....An Elizabeth is mentioned in his [Michael's] will, made 1807. Another ref. says Eliz. daughter of his second wife Margaret. (see notes from Sutro). 1

Evidence for Anthony being her father - her second son named Anthony (first son named after son's paternal grandfather-would make sense second son named after maternal grandfather.) Her daughter had a son James Franklin. Anthony had a son James Franklin. rl.

Some Bielers in Warwick, PA early on. (Fries).

_______

from Arnold, Jonnie P.: "Some American Peelers and their Descendants". pp80-81.: 1

"Elizabeth Peeler, b. 7 July 1775 or 1777, Granville or Rowan Co NC, d 27 Jun 1839, Montgomery Co IN, buried Walnut Twp, same place, m arr 4 Dec 1797 (Stokes Co NC marriage bond as Betsy Bealor --- name was handed down in family as Elizabeth Peeler), Solomon Beck, b. 1 May 1772, Granville Co, NC, d 1 Jan 1822, Montgomery Co IN, bur same as wife, son of John and Maria Catherena (___) Beck.

"The estate records of Montgomery Co, IN contain items concerning the estate of Solomon Beck (file box 4) and the estate of Elizabeth Beck (Order Book 2, p. 578, Probate Court, filed 14 Nov 1844.) These records identify their children. 1769 tax list of Granville Co, NC shows that John Beck, father of Solomon, was a neighbor of the Peelers in Granville Co. Rowan Co Deed records, Bk 16, p 66 records the sale of land by Anthony Peeler to Mical Beck (uncle of Solomon) in 1795. In 1802 Mical Beck sold part of this land to Solomon beck (Bk 21, page 16, same records) with some of it adjoining the lands of Anthony Peelor. It seems reasonable to assume that Elizabeth Peeler and Solomon Beck grew up in adjoining families. Becks moved into Stokes Co NC where they appear on the tax rolls for 1793, 1794, and 1795. Their land subsequently lay in Forsythe Co NC and at the edge of Stokes Co. The family burial plot is called Shouse-Beck cemetery located just beyond Hanes Hosiery Mill which is on part of the original land.

"Solomon and Elizabeth Beck emigrated west about 1806, were in Union Co IN prior to 5 Jul 1821 when Solomon served on the jury in the circuit court at Brownsville. In 1828 they took out a land patent in Walnut Twp, Montgomery Co, IN, where they lived and are buried in the corner of a field on the Boone-Montgomery Co line.

"The information on Elizabeth Peeler was compiled by Irene Beck Bateman of (1983) Franklin, IN; Roger B. Beck of (1983) Clayton, IN; and Edith B. Schuman of (1983) Bloomington, IN, my correspondent. Mrs. Schuman states a Beck genealogy is being prepared and will bring this family and others up to date.".
