The following information was obtained from Trail End Historic Site, Sheridan, Wyoming, home of Eula Wulfjen (daughter of Ida and Charles Wulfjen) and her husband, John Benjamin Kendrick:
"When preacher’s daughter Ida Josephine Peeler married up-and-coming Texas cattleman Charles Wulfjen in 1869, she chose to wear a dark-colored dress in a fashionable style. Her daughter Eula made the same choice when she married John Kendrick.
Eula was one of five children born to Charles and Ida Wulfjen, the others being Mattie, Edna, Hazel and Clarence.
Following the birth of Ida's granddaughter Rosa-Maye Kendrick, she wrote to her daughter Eula and her husband John about her husband's reaction--and her own--at being unable to be with their daughter and granddaughter:
'Your father was so happy – and did not mind being called an old grandfather at all. He said he would have to get a cane as soon as he could … Son, I shall watch very eagerly for your letters to learn how daughter is getting along. No one but a mother can ever know what a sacrifice it is to stay away from a daughter at such a time."
