The four were riding in a Ford V-8 sedan, and at the time of the accident Donald was operating the automobile. The accident happened a short distance north of Ausable Chasm. The car after leaving the cement road skidded on the slippery macadam went into the ditch overturned twice and struck a tree. Passing motorists pulled the injured from the wreckage and brought them to the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh where they were attended by Dr. L.G. Barton, Jr.

Obituaries for the children:

Arnold Peets: Chateaugay Record, Friday, 30 November 1934: Fatally injured in an automobile accident Sunday afternoon, November 18, Arnold Peets, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Peets of Saratoga, died in the Physicians hospital at Plattsburgh late last Wednesday night. It will be recalled that the young man accompanied by his parents and a younger brother, were enroute from their home to Chateaugay to attend the funeral of the late Alfred Peets, when the car in which they were riding crashed through a guard rail on a long curve in the Ausable Chasm road. The four occupants of the car were injured and being taken to the Plattsburgh hospital, it was not considered that Arnold was seriously injured although he suffered a fractured leg and minor bruises. A more thorough examination however revealed that his condition was critical and he gradually weakened until Wednesday night when the end came. His remains were taken to Saratoga Springs where funeral services were held Saturday morning with solemn requiem high mass at St. Peter's church. The funeral was attended by several undergraduates of the Albany College of Pharmacy where Mr. Peets was on the dean's list and recently elected to Kappa Psi, national honorary fraternity. He was also a member of the finance board and secretary of the staffs of Mortar and Pestle and Alembie Pharmaton, college publication. The parents of the deceased were former residents of Merrill, and numerous relatives of the young man are residents of this community.
