Obituary

Fred Peets: Tupper Lake Free Press, Thursday, 17 October 1940: Fred Peets, 47, of Youngstown, N.Y., son of Mr. Bennie Peets of 66 McLaughlin Ave., Tupper Lake, was killed in an automobile accident Friday night when his car skidded on the Lewiston Hill pavement, crashed thru a guard rail and plunged over the embankment, dropping 50 feet, upside down into a clump of trees. Mr. Peets suffered a fracture of the skull and his lung was punctured. He lay beneath the car for six hours, unnoticed by hundreds of passing motorists, before the wreck was discovered. Born in Chateaugay, N.Y., he had resided in Youngstown for the past 20 years. Surviving besides his father are 11 children: Edward and Gerald Peets and Mrs. Albert Wills, all of Niagara Falls, and Raymond, Elizabeth, Dorothy, Mary, Veronica, Robert, Richard and Shirley Peets, all of Youngstown. His wife died several years ago. Funeral services were held Monday morning in Youngstown and burial was in the Riverdale Cemetery there. Those who attended the services from here were his father, Bennie Peets; his brothers, Joseph and Thomas Peets; his sisters, Miss Melvina Peets and Mrs. Henry LaBarge; his nephew, Lymond Peets, Frank Peets and Mr. LaBarge.
