Obituary

Joseph Peets: Tupper Lake Free Press, Wednesday, 13 May 1987: Joseph Peets, 81, of 41 Pleasant Ave. died suddenly Friday night May 8, at Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where he was spending a week visiting at the home of his son, Raymond Peets. Stricken ill there, he was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Peets had planned to leave the next day, Saturday, to fly to Marshall, Texas to visit at the home of another son, Leonard Peets of that city. He was born at Forest, N.Y. on August 6, 1905, a son of Bennie Peets and Jennie Veivia Peets. The family moved to Tupper Lake in his early childhood and he attended Holy Ghost Academy. On May 26, 1926 he was married at Niagara Falls, N.Y. to Miss Anna Deneault, who predeceased him on March 31, 1979. Mr. Peets was employed at Sunmount VA Hospital, and at the Oval Wood Dish plant here for many years. Thereafter he worked as custodian and later as truant officer for the Tupper Lake schools. He was a member of Tupper Lake Council 2177, Knights of Columbus, which held a memorial service Monday night at the Rennell Funeral Home. Surviving are three sons: Leonard of Marshall, Texas; Raymond of Poughkeepsie and LeRoy Peets of Newton Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Jeannette) Shinnock of Massena; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude LaBarge, Tupper Lake and Mrs. Lavina Pharand of Masson, Quebec; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Msgr. Edmund H. Dumas at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alphonsus Church, and interment was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Tupper Lake Emergency Squad. Funeral arrangements were with the Rennell Funeral Home.
