Gertrude LaBarge, 95, passed away Monday September 16, 2013 in South Carolina. Born November 7, 1917 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Jennie (Vevieu) Peets. Gertrude attended Holy Ghost Academy and worked for a time at the Oval Wood Dish. On October 16, 1937 she married Henry LaBarge at St. Alphonsus Church. In the 1950’s, she and her husband relocated several times due to Henry’s work eventually settling in Plattsburgh. In the early 1970’s they returned to Tupper Lake and made their home on Becky Avenue. Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She loved bingo, cards and traveling. She spent several winters in Florida. Gertrude was an active member in the Adirondack Adult Center and also the St. Anne Society. For the past few years, she let her hair grow to be donated to the locks of love program which was done at her demise. In 2009 she moved to South Carolina to be cared for by her daughter Barbara where she resided until her death. She is survived by two children; Barbara Schiff Hodges, SC, Richard Henry LaBarge of Maryland, nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, one daughter Nancy and her brothers and sisters. She had seven siblings; Frank Peets, Fred Peets, Joseph Peets, Lavina Pharand, Henry Thomas Peets and Melvina Willette and Rose Miller. There will be no calling hours, a graveside service is scheduled for noon on Thursday, October 10 at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home.
