Biography

Charles William Pegler was born around 1852, the son of Ann Pegler and Joel Pegler.^[1]

From two years of age, he resided in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia.^[2] His started his career as a butcher, but abandoned the trade and took up employment at Cunnack's tannery, before leaving to start mining.^[2] Later, he worked as a fishmonger in Hargreave Street and just prior to his death he was working for Council, where his duties included collecting rates.^[2]

He married Sarah Ann Taylor in 1875 in Victoria.^[3] Their children were:

Charles died in January 1908 at Omdine, Victoria, aged 56.^[1][13] His remains were interred in the Castlemaine Cemetery.^[13] He was survived by his wife, six daughters and three sons.^[2]
