Biography

Ann (Nancy) Baker Pegram was born July 4, 1762[1] in Virginia (probably either Dinwiddie or Brunswick County) to Edward and Mary Scott (Baker) Pegram.[1]

note that her mother's maiden name was Baker, not Scott.

Nancy Pegram married Thomas Manson about 1780 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.[1]

Their children:[1]

  • Susannah Hardaway Manson (died 5 Oct 1814)
  • Mary Baker Manson (born about 1785)
  • Martha Pegram Manson (born 18 Aug 1791; died 29 Apr 1827)
  • Agnes Thweat Manson (born 9 Dec 1793; died 17 Dec 1861)
  • Edward Manson (born about 1795[2])
  • Thomas James Manson (born about 1804; died 15 Feb 1844)

Nancy (Pegram) Manson died after April 28, 1806.[3]

  3. probate date of her husband's will Thomas Manson, citation from #6199C1 Pegram Family Album (accessed July 21, 2014)

"Origin of the Pegram Family in the United States and History of the Same during the Eighteenth Century," Henry Pegram The William and Mary Quarterly, Vol. 2, No. 1 (Jan., 1922) Published by: Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture; Stable URL: http://www.jstor.org/stable/1921483 : page 63, has Thomas Mansen m Mary Pegram born March 6, 1744 (sister Ann b July 4, 1762, m John Simms). The birth years of the children (mid-1780s to 1804) are improbably for Mary b 1744; perhaps both Thomas and Ann (b 1762) were widowed and married c 1780?

From #7142 Pegram Family Album (accessed July 21, 2014):

Credit for much of the research on Edward Pegram's line was done by Dr. Samuel W. Simmons who spent many years researching Edward Pegram's line which resulted in the publication of his book: THE PEGRAMS OF VIRGINIA AND THEIR DESCENDANTS; 1688-1984; Atlanta, Georgia, 1984.

For many years we felt that we should restrict our research to Daniel's line in order to complete the family history. However, Dr. Simmons is now deceased and his book is out of print and not readily available to those just starting their research. For this reason, we have decided to incorporate the information compiled by Dr. Simmons. This would be impossible were it not for the efforts of Winona Solomon who has for many years been building a database of ALL the Pegram family lines. She has kindly shared her research so that we can make it available here for all our Pegram descendants.

THANK YOU!

see page 215 ... Edward Young, orphan of Edward Young, chose Baker Pegram as guardian with Peter Manson as surety. Nancy had a brother named Baker.
