Biography

Loring Hampton Peirce, the son of Joseph and Julia (Haas) Peirce, spent his formative years in Valparaiso. He began his career working in the family boot and shoe store on Main Street.

In 1903, Loring married Rose Drago of Valparaiso. They had two children, one of whom died young, and the other named James Loring Peirce.

Loring was a businessman and at one time owned a company, the Peirce-Walker Company in Hobart, Indiana, that had interests in coal and lumber. He also was the manager for a time of the hardware department at the Lowenstein Store in Valparaiso.

Loring died at the age of 45. After his death, Loring's wife and son later moved to the Chicago area, where James excelled in academics and became a successful businessman and writer.
