Biography

In 1900 Edna (4) is living with her parents Wllliam (51, born May 1849) and Laura A (46, born Oct 1853), and her siblings Bertha H (13, born June 1886), and Daisy B (8, Born Jan 1892). William is a farm laborer at the time and they live in Clinton Township, Wyoming, Pennsylvania on the 16th of June, 1900. [1]

The 1910 Census shows Edna (14), living with her parents William (60) and "Lora" (56) who had been married for 36 years at the time. Laura is noted as having 8 children, all of whom were still alive. They were living in Newton Township, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania on the 29th of April, 1910. [2]

Edna Pelham and David Lyon Fairbairn were married on the 17th of May, 1915 in Fleishmanns, New York. [3]

In 1920, Edna's husband David was a farm foreman on Drybrook Rd in the Town of Hardenburgh, New York. Living with with him were his wife Edna 25, Arthur 15, Donald 13, Dorothy 13, Claude 11, Clarence 11, Herman 10, David 2, and Richard 1. [4]

By 1925 David (40) and Edna (28) had moved to a farm along a state highway in Shandaken. The children were all living with them: Arthur 21 Building Laborer, Donald 19 Farm Laborer, Dorothy 19 Hotel worker, Claude 17 Farm Laborer, Clarence 17 Farm Laborer, Herman 16 Farm Laborer, George 14 School, David L 9 School, Richard N 6 School, Altanah 3, Mary 238 days. As of 1940 Edna (44) is living with her new (second?) husband, Chester A Joy (48) and Chester's son John (19) in Kingston, Ulster, New York. Chester was a superintendent of an apartment house and his son was a soda truck driver/distributor. Edna is noted as having completed 8th grade, Chester 7th, and John 8th. [6]

The 1950 Census notes that Edna (54) is working as a chambermaid for a hotel, while Chester (58) is a cabinet maker. They were living in Lake Katrine, Ulster, New York. [7]

"Mrs. Edna P. Joy, 67 of Saugerties RD 3 died Friday at Benedictine Hospital. She was born in Dallas Borough, PA. She was the widow of Chester Joy who died in 1961. She is survived by two daughtes, Mrs. Orville Ballard, of Flesihmanns and Mrs. William Atkin of Arkville, two sons, Richard Fairbairn of Delhi and David Fairbairn of Younkers, a step-daughter, Mrs. William Musley, of Oneonta, five step-sons, Donald Fairbairn of Margaretville, Clarence of Johnson Cith, Claude of Newfield N J, Herman of Vega NY and George of Margreatville, a sister, Mrs. George Haynes of Kingston, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchldren. ????? services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lasher Funeral Home, Inc. Woodstock and the Rev. Harld J. Stephans pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Crematino will follow at the Garnder Earl Crematory in Troy.
