1667 --- In the Recensement de la Nouvelle-France en 1667 by Jean Talon, on page 1, we read: “François Pelletier, 32; Marguerite Morisseau, 24, sa femme (his wife); Marie, 5; François Xavier, 4; Joseph 2; Marguerite-Agnès, 15 mois (months).” The residence was in Québec city.
The date cited is uncertain, since the Sorel records are incomplete. There was a Joseph Peletier present at the marriage of his sister Geneviève on 14 May 1690 in Montréal, but the relationship is not specified, it just says they are relatives.[2]
Engagement de Joseph Pelletier et Guillaume Leduc à Claude Greysolon de la Tourette (4 août 1691). (N° 4330.) Vol IV pg 244 Notaire Gilles Rageot[3]
The above hiring on 6 Aug 1691 by Claude Greysolon de la Tourette, noted fur trader, could have been this Joseph, his brother François also hired out to the same man. In which case he might have gone fur trading and not come back.
