Jeanne Pelletret, daughter of Simon Pelletret and Perrine Bourg, was born around 1643. Genealogist Stephen White does not give a location for her birth.[1] Karen Theriot Reader in her profile of Jeanne Pelletret indicates that she was born in Acadie.[2] She is found in her mother and step-fathers census entry in 1671 as well as her own entry with Barnabe Martin.[3]
Jeanne (23) married Barnabé Martin (30) (born about 1636 in France) in 1667 in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France.
Their known children were:
Between about 1667 and 1686, Jeanne gave birth to eight children: Marie, René, an unnamed daughter, Madeleine, Jeanne, Etienne, Cécile, and an unnamed child.[4]
At the time of the first Acadian Census in 1671, the family was living in Port-Royal, Acadia (Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada).[5] Thirty-five year old Barnabé and 27 year old Jeanne were living with two young children. Two and a half arpents of their land (in two places) was cultivated and they had 2 cattle and 3 sheep. It is not clear where their homestead was situated, although by 1707, their son Etienne's farm was on the south bank of the Dauphin (Annapolis River) east of the fort.[4][6]
By 1678, there were 6 children in their household, and they owned 6 acres of land, and 4 cattle.[7]
Jeanne was widowed before the 1686 census.[8][4]
In 1686, at Port Royal, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 45, the widow of Barnabe MARTIN, was living with her seven children: Marie, aged 18, Rene, aged 15, Madeleine [sic], aged 12, Jeanne, aged 10, Estienne [sic], aged 8, and 2 other children. They were living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 6 cattle and 4 hogs.[8]
Jeanne (47) married Jacques Le Vanier (37) (born in 1653 in Port-Royal, Acadie) in 1691 in Acadie. Their known daughter was Elizabeth Le Vanier (1688– ).[4]
In 1693, at Port Royal, Jeanne PELTRET [sic], aged 52, widow of Barnabe MARTIN, was living with her husband, Jacque LEVANIA [sic], aged 40, and their daughter, Elisabeth [sic], aged 4 and her children with MARTIN: Rene, aged 22, Jeanne, aged 18, Estienne [sic], aged 13, and Cecille, aged 11. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 16 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 12 sheep, and 6 pigs.[9]
Jeanne and Jacques were enumerated in the censuses of Port-Royal for the years 1698[10], 1700[11], 1701[12], 1703[13], and 1707[14]
Jeanne Pelletray, wife of Lanchevin, died on January 10 1706 aged 63 years at Port Royal and was buried there the next day.[15][16]
Jeanne Pelletret's mother was Perinne Bourg. The Mothers of Acadia Project indicates that Perrine Bourg had an H14b1 haplogroup (updated May 2020). FTDNA Project p 4 also reports this haplogroup as well as HVR1 of T16126C, A16129G, T16187C, C16189T, T16223C, G16230A, T16278C, C16311T, C16519T in all testers. HVR2 differed only in a 309.2C mutation in two of the testers. Results for Perrine Bourg indicate European origins.
