Biography

Louis was born in 1900. He was the son of Nathan Pemstein and Hannah Stein.[1] He married Ida Livingston in 1923.[2] They had one child, Bernard.[3]

Louis died in 1991.[4][5] He was buried at B'nai Brith Lodge Cemetery in Worcester, Massachusetts.[6]

Obituary

Louis P. Pemstein, 91, formerly of 15 Dick Drive, died yesterday in the Jewish Home for Aged, 629 Salisbury St.

His wife of 65 years, Ida (Livingston) Pemstein, died in 1989. He leaves a son, Bernard L. Pemstein of Worcester; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Nathan and Hannah Pemstein, and lived here all his life.

Over the years, Mr. Pemstein was president of Worcester Dusting Mills Inc., the former Whittaker Fibers and the former Beaver Brook Mills. He was also president of Maynard Development Co., Hopedale Realty Trust in Hopedale, Grand Realty Trust, and Shrewsbury Realty Trust before he retired. He was former treasurer of Park-Chandler Realty Trust.

Mr. Pemstein was a founding member and former board director of Temple Emanuel, and a member of its Brotherhood. He was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, Shaarai Torah Synagogue West, Temple Sinai, and their brotherhoods. He was a member of Worcester Lodge 600, B'nai B'rith. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Country Club in Boylston and Level Lodge of Masons. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Pemstein was a contributing member of the Jewish Home for Aged. He was longtime master of ceremonies at the home, local synagogues and clubs.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Temple Emanuel, 280 May St. Rabbi Joseph Klein, Rabbi Stuart Gershon and Cantor Sheri E. Blum will officiate. Burial will be in B'nai B'rith Cemetery. Memorial week will be observed through Thursday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard L. Pemstein, 4 Jamesbury Drive. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Home for Aged, 629 Salisbury, Worcester, 01609; or Temple Emanuel, 280 May St., Worcester, 01602; or a charity of one's choice. Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St., is directing arrangements.[7]
