Biography

2 Sam Jr. Born 17 Sep. 1676 Lynne Mass. VRs. bapt. 25 Mar. 1688 Bristol R.I. Cong. Church. He m. 12 June 1699 Hannah Shepard in Bristol R. 1. Cong. Church. In "Arnolds Records of R.I." vol. 8 p. 260. In National Society of Daus. of Founders and Patriots of America, Lineage Book Vol. 29 p. 236, Nat. no. 4784, we find her listed. She may be the daughter of Thomas (born Eng. 1657) and Hannah Ensign of Scituate. "Genealogical Dictionary", Savage vol. 4 p. 76. Samuel came to Conn. and was admitted as "a planter" 17 Dec. 1710. The "History of Guilford and Madison" by Bernard Steiner lists him on page 137. He died 22 Nov. 1714 and was buried in the old cemetery, now part of the Village Green of Guilford. His stone stands by the north wall of Alderbrook Cemetery. His death is listed in "American Genealogist" vol. 16 p. 181. He left an old negro woman in his will. Hannah was born in 1677 and was still alive in 1771 ae 94. She is listed in the "Diary" of Ezra Stiles, Pres. of Yale U. She was probably buried with her husband in the old cemetery.
