Joseph married Alice Wigan on 24 Jul 1766 at All Saints Church in Wigan, Lancashire, by licence. Both were of Wigan, and aged 21 or more, and neither had been married before; Joseph was a servant. The witnesses were Gerd. Bancks and Jeffery Hickman. The marriage bond was co-signed by Jeffery Hickman (joiner of Wigan).
Their son Peter was christened on 18 Sep 1766 at All Saints Church in Wigan, Lancashire. The family's address was recorded as Wallgate.[1]

Alice Penkethman (widow of Wallgate) died in 1795 of weakness, aged 52, and was buried on 25 Oct 1795 at All Saints Church in Wigan, Lancashire.[6]
