Biography

Lonnie is the child of William Penn and Phila Bellah. (Entered by Ginny Howard, Wednesday, October 2, 2013.)

Sources

Lonnie's name as well as his siblings who all died young, Lucius O. and Tommy J., were inscribed on each end of the monument of their father, Dr. W. B. Penn, buried in Section #2, Block #4 of Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama.

Lonnie L. Penn's name was not listed on the 1880 Etowah Co., AL census record. His father died in 1880; therefore, Lonnie L. was born most likely prior to the enumeration of this census.

The tombstone was very difficult to find since all the deaths were in the 1880's and it was so discolored. Although I had looked for four months for the marker for Dr. Penn, I was surprise to learn the names of the children who were buried in the Penn family plot. Lonnie L. Penn was a son of Dr. William Benjamin Penn (1838-1880) and Pila Eugenia Josephine Bellah Penn (1840-1914 per Alabama death record listed as Josephine Philo Eugenia Penn.)

Brother of Ida Jane Josephine, Robert Lee, William B, Eppinetus Paltire, Thomas J, Miles E, Zachary and Lucius O Penn.

Grandson of William Miles Penn & Palatyra Huff and Thomas Walter Bellah & Rebecca Samantha Zachry.

Note: Lonnie was not enumerated in the 1870 or the 1880 Census. Strictly speculation, I believe Lonnie was likely born after the birth of Eppinetus and Thomas J Penn.
