MR. W. H. PENNIFOLD.
Beachport, August 27.
The town has again been shocked to learn of the sulden death of another of its prominent townspeople, Mr. W. H. Pennifold. Mr. Pennifold had proceeded to Adelaide on a business visit in connection with his store, and it was there that his untimely demise occurred. The deceased gentleman was apparently enjoying the best of health right up until the time he left Beachport, and the suddenness of his death has caused a shock. Mr. Pennifold spent his boyhood in Beachport, where his father, a ganger in the Railways Department, was located. Following his father's lead, Mr. Pennifold entered the Railways Department, where he had a distinguished career as foreman of works. He retired about ten years ago in order to purchase the storekeeping business at Beachport, in which he was engaged right up to the time of his death. As soon an news of his death reached Beachport a movement was started to purchase a permanent wreath for his grave, but the response has been so magnificent that it is now intended to place a marble headstone of some description on the grave. Mr. Pennifold was prominently indentified with the Institute, of which he was President, and which under his regime has flourished considerably. In his day he was also a prominent cricketer in the North, and took great interest in the local team, umpiring at all the local matches. But it was in cases of sickness that the deceased gentleman did so much good in the town. He had a wide knowledge of the treatment of the more common forms of ailments, and this knowledge was always at the disposal of the sick. His services in the diphtheria epidemic some time ago will always be remembered with gratitude. The deceased left a wife and six children, and the sympathy of the town goes out to them.
Henry and Grace Stredwick emigrated to Australia on the SS "Sultana" which departed Liverpool, November 1858 and arrived Victoria February 14, 1859.
On the same ship was FANNY PENNIFOLD
