Census

1850 Census. Jack Petty (Andrew Jackson) was living at home with his spouse, Dealey (Delila) Petty and one child: Burtin T. (Barton T.), in Fayette, Alabama. Barton was less than one year old and born in Alabama. This Census is correct with Jack being born in Georgia and Dealey in South Carolina. Jack was 22 and Dealey was 23. They lived next door to Delila's father, William Pennington and her mother, Isabella. James Petty also lived close by with his wife Zephroney and his one year old Nontorey.[1]
1860 Census Delila (Dealey) was still living in Fayette, Alabama. Her husband was now deceased and she was still living next door to her dad, William Pennington. Her children, Barton 10 and Martin 6 were living with her. This census shows that she worked as a seamstress. She was 30 years old. This family was also living very close to the Tackett's.[2]
1870 Census "Idella" (Delila) was the head of the house. She was 40 years old and b. in SC. Her son, Martin C., was 14. b. in Alabama was living with her. He was working the farm. They were living in Sandford, Covington, Alabama.[3]
1880 Census This census shows Delilah (Dealey) Petty living with her son, Martin Petty who was married to Mary Pennington. She was 50 at the time and Martin and Mary had one son, Andrew J. Petty, born in Alabama being 2 at the time and Ardena Petty born in Alabama being 4 at the time. They were living in Oktibbeha, Mississippi, United States at the time.[4]

Notes/Research

Note: In the 1930 Census for Martin C. Petty, it says his mother was born in Alabama.[5] Note: In the 1880 Census where Delilah was living with her son and daughter-in-law, it shows that she was born in North Carolina.
On Petty Papers it lists her as Delia Vail. Caution: On Find A Grave it states that Delila's mother was Elizabeth Sarratt Pennington. Need further research on this.
