OBITUARY: Edith Blassingame, age 86, passed on from this life to be with her lord and savior Saturday May 29, 2004. She was born on July 7, 1917, the youngest of 10 children to William and Mary Elizabeth Pennington. Married on January 9, 1936 in Hagerman, Texas. They were married for 51 years before Charles presided her in death on Dec 5 1987,

Mrs. Blassingame and her husband made their home in the La Plata area. During this time she became involved in the San Juan County Fair Board (serving 2 terms) was a 4-H leader and was also instrumental in organizing the fiddler's contest for the San Juan County Fair (Old Time Fiddlers contest) and the State Fair of New Mexico. Edith was also inducted into the Old Time fiddlers Hall of Fame in Truth of Consequences New Mexico.

Edith worked at Anthony's for over 11 years and for the past 7 years owned the operated "Ma B"s Country Parlor in La Plata, New Mexico.

She preceded in death by her husband Charles her daughter Wanda Sue and her greet-grandson Jeremiah as well as her parents five brothers and four sisters,

Edith greatly loved her family and they will truly miss her presence and inspiration. Our dear mothers and grandmother was lived so much by all who know her and we were blessed to have such a wonderful lady in our lives for so many years she will be in our hearts forever.

Survivors include her sons Charles Ray Blassingame and wife Frieda, Tillman Toy Blassingame and wife Dawn daughters Peggy Sue Dallas and husband Shelton Brenda Marie Keith and husband Raymond and Linda Lavon Quinn and husband John 15 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 2 2004 at Northside Church of Christ 401 20th streets at 10:00 a.m. With J.B. Harrington officiating Interment will be at the La Plata Cemetery in La Plata, N.M. A dinner in Edith's honor will follow the service and burial at the Old La Plata schoolhouse.

Pallbearers are Charles Blassinggame, Tillman Blassingame, Clifford Blassingame, Raymond Keith, Shelton Dallas and John Quinn. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to New Mexico Christian Children's Fund at 1356 New Mexico 236 Portales. N.M. 88130-9411

Edith's family also wishes to extend a special thanks to the La Plata fire department for their help many times over the years and the nurse Anita Rader and Ruth Harrington

Arrangements are entrusted in Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington.
