Walter Pennington was born in early 1832, and baptised 18 Apr 1832 in East Retford, Nottinghamshire[1], the fourth child of six born to Frederick Pennington and Mary (Darley) Pennington.
There is a record - inconclusive - which suggests that when aged 35 in 1867, he may have emigrated to New York, USA on the passenger liner "Helvetia".
